The Andaman and Nicobar islands are home to over 560 different species of coral that stretch over 13,000 km. The coral reef is said to be a bridge between the islands. Like many coral reefs in the world, the health of Andaman reefs are deteriorating due to increased sea temperatures and climate change as a whole. We found a small non-profit called, Reef Watch Marine Conservation, who is dedicated to rescuing coral fragments and re-attaching them to the sea floor using a metal structures. This increases their survival rate and allows them to use electrolysis, based on solar energy, to increase the corals calcium carbonate, which helps it grow faster and stronger. They are also working to make the Andaman island plastic free!
