Tamil Nadu is located in the southeast tip of India. The state is also home to one of the biggest garment industries in the world and one of the most exploited. The non-profit we found is based in Tamil Nadu and while they do not fight against textile factories specifically, they do promote many people working within them. Socio-Economic and Educational Development Society (SEEDS), is a NGO that focuses on empowering marginalized sections of the society through education, skill training and activism. They promote gender equality, non-discriminatory behavior in the workforce, and protecting the rights of rural communities through legal assistance and enterprise outreach. Recently, SEEDS identified roughly 200 abandoned, isolated or widowed women and formed a community based coop around agricultural products. The goal is to provide these women with regular employment and a united voice!
