We had been looking for an alternative to conventional elastane for quite some time. Conventional elastane is an amazing material which absolutely changed the fashion industry forever. Unfortunately, it's also one of the worst materials for the environment. It doesn’t degrade and after the useful life, it gets discarded in the landfill.
It took us about a year to find an environmentally friendly alternative and we found two! We call them out eco-elastics!
1. The first we tried is a blend of natural latex and organic cotton. About 65% to 35%, respectively. Absolutely no plastic is used in the production process and its 100% biodegradable! On top of that, the entire process is GOTS certified!
2. Our second elastic is 100% recycled polyester. Recycled polyester reduces water consumption and energy emissions, and might be one of the most sustainable materials on the planet. While polyester is not as elastic as conventional elastane, it's pretty darn close and offers environmental advantages.
